The sense of male dominance with Stanley and Stella, the quest for self identity (through Blanche) and also the idea of material possessions being a need. Blanche seems very materialistic, and plays the part of the southern Belle to a tee, but she plays the part almost to cover her pain and hurt that she is really feeling.

I find this reading easier than some of the other so far.

Their Eyes were watching God

I am finding a common theme across many of the works we have read in class so far on teh idea of the American Dream, and the idea of parents or gradparents wanting more for their parents. The idea of wanting a better life for their loved ones is a theme that is popular.
I found that the reading so far has been enjoyable. It would have made better sense if the book ended with the reveal of Roth and the girl, or even if the book ended with a storyline on Ike, maybe then the book would have seeemed a little more interesting.

I did how ever like the way that Faulkner intorduced the characters, as well as throughout the story gave the readers a little more information on the main characters.

I actually enjoyed Go Down Moses. While reading “Was”, I found it interesting how the story focused on two ideas, which all come back to the idea of the MCCaslin family. You can feel the tension between the white characters and the black characters throughout the story, although the family is of mixed race. Although the slave boy (Turl) is part of the McCaslin family, he is still treated as a slave.
While beginning to read the next section of the book, I found this to be a continuation of the first story, introducing new characters like Lucas, which was the boy in the first story Was. I found it confusing at times to keep the characters separate. The Edmonds and The McCaslin’s.

I found it interesting that the men bet on a card game to see who would get the slaves. It is as if women and slaves were just a game to the plantation owners, which is quite sad. Along with the idea of characters being “sad” is the fact that the characters were so involved in the buried treasure, that they were willing to risk losing their families.

Test

Test Run
